MINNETONKA, Minn. — In what many are calling a preview of the Section 2AA final, the Minnetonka Skippers proved once again why they hold the top spot in the state rankings. Behind a 28-save performance from their standout goaltender and a decisive third-period power-play goal, the Skippers (14-1-0) edged out Wayzata in a physical, high-tempo battle on Thursday night.

Wayzata controlled the shot clock early, but Minnetonka’s structured neutral-zone trap stifled the Trojans’ transition game. “Games like these are won in the dirty areas,” Minnetonka’s head coach noted post-game. With the win, Minnetonka remains the team to beat as the road to the Xcel Energy Center begins to narrow.
