BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — In high school basketball, having a star player wins you games. Having a deep bench wins you championships. Long Island Lutheran (LuHi) proved they have both in their emphatic win over Sierra Canyon this past weekend.

While opposing defenses focused on containing their perimeter shooting, LuHi’s balanced attack picked them apart. Four Crusaders scored in double figures, led by Taylor Brown’s 20 points and Savannah Swords chipping in 19.

The Crusaders, currently ranked in the top 3 nationally, showcased a defensive versatility that suffocated Sierra Canyon’s secondary options. LuHi’s ability to switch on screens 1 through 5 frustrated their opponents, forcing contested shots late in the shot clock.

“We don’t care who scores,” Brown said. “On any given night, it could be any of us. That’s what makes us dangerous.”

As the postseason approaches, the road to the national championship clearly runs through Brookville.
