DARIEN, CT – In a rivalry that defines the gold standard of high school girls’ lacrosse, the Darien Blue Wave asserted their dominance with a commanding 14-8 victory over New Canaan on Thursday night. The win solidifies Darien’s position as the top-ranked team in the Northeast and keeps their undefeated season intact.
The Blue Wave’s offensive transition was surgical, led by senior midfielder Sadie Stafford, who controlled the draw circle and chipped in with four goals and two assists. Darien’s defense was equally impressive, employing a high-pressure zone that forced 12 turnovers and limited New Canaan’s potent attackers to long-range shots.
“Our transition game was the X-factor tonight,” said the Darien head coach. “When we control the draw and run the floor like that, we are very difficult to stop.”
With the postseason approaching, Darien looks like the clear favorite to sweep the conference and state titles once again.
